Autistic Spectrum Disorders
Autistic Spectrum Disorders is an umbrella term for a number of disorders which affect a child's social interaction and communication.
Autistic Spectrum Disorders are developmental disorders which will affect a child throughout their life. As stated in the title, these are spectrum disorders, this means that the severity and symptoms will vary for each specific child. Some children will be able to speak whilst others will be completely non-verbal (unable to speak).
All children with Autism Spectrum Disorders have one thing in common; they will all demonstrate deficits in:
- Social interaction
- Verbal and non-verbal communication
- Repetitive behaviors or interests
What types of Autism Spectrum Disorders do we treat?
Types of Autism Spectrum Disorders we treat at speech and language therapy include:
