What to expect

7 Years

At 7 years old your child should have acquired the following as part of their speech and language development:


  • Ability to read.
  • Able to use more abstract thoughts.
  • Able to give opposite meanings.
  • Ability to write a paragraph independently.

Play and social

  • May form special friends at school.
  • Approval of other peers becomes important.
  • Enjoys spending more time alone.
  • Moodiness more frequent.
  • Trying to complete tasks that are too hard to complete.
  • Enjoys reading books and watching T.V.

Eating, drinking and swallowing

  • Eats and drinks the same as the rest of their family.
