What to expect

8-12 years

Your 12 year old child should have acquired the following as part of the normal speech and language development:

Language

  • Improved concentration.
  • Ability to write a story.
  • Ability to think scientifically.
  • Ability to read fluently.
  • Ability to take part in more complex games e.g. chess.

Play and social

  • Increased independence.
  • Increased understanding of self.
  • Friendships become more important.

ng, drinking and swallowing

  • Eats and drinks the same as their family
