At speech and language therapy we will work closely with schools when assessing and treating children with speech, language and communication difficulties. This includes both mainstream and special educational needs schools. The school environment is fundamental in supporting and developing a child's language. The school setting will place a high demand on a child's communication and language skills; therefore it is important that appropriate support is put in place for children with speech, language and communication needs.
The speech and language therapist will work with a variety of professionals in the school environment including teachers, learning support assistants and special education needs officers. Our speech and language therapists can provide a variety of services to a child's school including:
- one to one therapy
- Therapy programmes
- consultative role
- alternative and augmentative communication
- advice and education
- Statement of special educational needs
Our speech and language therapists can offer support and advice to educational staff and will also treat and assess children in their school environment. The speech and language therapist will work closely with school staff in helping a child to access the national curriculum and achieving their best potential.
