Our assessment process
Our team of expert speech and language therapists at SLT UK provide a service to support individuals, carers and family members by assessing the mental capacity of the patient to guide the management of eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties.
What does a capacity assessment involve?
The speech and language therapist will be required to carry out a full eating, drinking and swallowing assessment in order to establish the individual’s strengths and areas of difficulties with their eating, drinking, swallowing and communication.
Mental capacity assessments:
Discuss the difficulties the individual is experiencing with eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties and explain the recommendations.
- Work alongside other professionals involved in the individual's care.
- Provide a variety of different means to enable the individual to communicate their wishes and needs.
- Provide detailed reports following the mental capacity assessments.
- Recommendations will be put in place to fully support the individual with their eating, drinking and swallowing management.
