Mealtime training for carers
SLT UK have a team of specialist speech and language therapists who provide a training programme for those who care for an individual with eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties.
What does eating, drinking and swallowing training include?
The aim of the training is to provide you with information about eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties, what the signs are and managing the speech and language therapist’s recommendations. The eating, drinking and swallowing therapy programme consists of:
- The normal swallow.
- The signs of eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties.
- How to reduce the risk of eating, drinking and swallowing disorders.
When do I contact speech and language therapy?
- Diet modification.
- Fluid modification.
- Alternatives to eating, drinking and swallowing.
After an initial appointment with one of our speech and language therapists we will be able to clarify your specific needs and goals. A training programme can then be tailored to you so that it will be beneficial to you. Training can be delivered to an individual or to a group of people dependent on your needs. Materials can also be provided to care homes upon request.
If you feel you may benefit from speech and language therapy or would like any more information on our services please email office@slt.co.uk or call 0330 088 5643.
