Group therapy at SLT UK

Our speech and language therapists can provide group therapy for individuals with speech, language and communication difficulties. Our speech and language therapists can also provide group programmes for parents and carers regarding an individual’s speech, language and communication needs.

Group treatment involves a group of patients or a group of parents or carers. Group treatment will often involve individuals with similar speech, language or communication needs however this will vary depending on the purpose of the group. Groups vary from smaller more intense groups to larger groups. Larger groups may often be run by two speech and language therapists.

What are the benefits of group treatment?

There are many benefits of group treatment and this can advantage both the individual and also their parents or carers. Participants can practise skills learnt in one to one therapy in the group environment. Group therapy may increase self-esteem and confidence of the individual as their ability to communicate with others increases.

Group therapy provides a chance for individuals and their parents or carers to share their communication experiences with others and provides a support network for everyone involved. There are many different types of group treatment available at SLT UK for adults of all ages, carers and parents.
