What is a stuttering and fluency group?
Speech and language therapy can offer stuttering and fluency groups for people who stutter / stammer. These groups will help to support individuals in using techniques to help lessen the impact of their stuttering. Stuttering groups give individuals the opportunity to meet other people who stutter and help to increase their self-esteem and confidence when communicating.
A stuttering and fluency group is a support group for individuals who stutter / stammer. A stuttering and fluency group will involve individuals who stutter of all ages and abilities. Stuttering and fluency groups allow individuals to share their experiences, techniques and information regarding stuttering.
Stuttering and fluency groups provide the opportunity to meet individuals with similar problems. Stuttering and fluency groups also help individuals to practice speaking in a listener friendly environment.
Each group will vary in age, content, length of time and location. Each group will meet the specific needs of group members. Stuttering and fluency groups can include:

Depending on the size of the group there may be one or two speech and language therapists present. The speech and language therapists are not there to intimidate people, they a simply there to provide support, advice, guidance and positive reinforcement for the group.
Stuttering and fluency groups provide a friendly and safe environment for individuals to communicate in and share their similar experiences. Stuttering and fluency groups allow individuals to form new friendships, increase self-esteem and gain confidence about communicating.
